Your city is a living thing. The stones and streets exert power over you. It is an actor, an activist, a psychic time-bomb... Join Exceptional Beasts, in partnership with Cardiff University School of Geography and Planning in an experimental "GeoRPG". Rather than played across a table or at a designated site, this game treats the streets of Cardiff and South Wales as the board. Make a character as one of two factions - the Spectres of Rust, roving ghosts of the city's past; and the Surveyors, who hunt the streets for stray ghosts... See your city in a new light, explore locations you might never otherwise find, and inhabit - for a time - another life. All participants must book individually. ___________________________ This game is experimental and entirely free to all participants. It is being produced as part of a research project into urban play opportunities. Participation in the game requires the completion of a demographic survey beforehand. The game is open to any players aged 18+. Participants must consent to having their picture taken to play, as there is a photographic component to the game. Some participants may be GPS tracked for a portion of the game. FAQ: What is a GeoRPG? Geogames (also called lifestyle games, street games or Augmented Reality Games) comprise any game played over a large public area. Famous examples include The Amazing Race, JetLag, Campus Assassin, Geocaching and Pokémon GO. A GeoRPG uses the same basic ideas as these games, with a fiction, roleplay aspect. What do I need to participate? You don't need any specific resources to participate - all required resources will be provided to you. That said, a pen and notebook is likely to be very handy, and a smartphone is also useful. You may be expected to travel as part of the game, and a travel budget of ~£15 (not provided) will make the game more accessible and enjoyable. Can children and teenagers participate? This game is only open to players aged 18+, but there is no "adult content" and any adult participating may bring children or young players along as a "Familiar" to help with the activities and help make the story. I want to participate, but I can't play for the whole weekend, or I might have to cancel last minute. Should I still sign up? Spectres is meant to be played around your daily life, so as long as you are in Cardiff or the surrounding areas on the weekend of the game, you can play.
